Off-Highway/Heavy Equipment

Simulation-Driven Design for a Family of Designs in the Off-Highway/Heavy Equipment Industries

Off-Highway vehicle and industrial equipment manufacturers often have product lines that involve many configurations/variants of a base vehicle design such as a wheel loader, excavator or backhoe with many common parts such as booms, buckets, digging teeth, tracks, tires, counterweights, etc. Vehicles are often configured to meet the specific customer site operating requirements resulting in a large number of design variants that must be evaluated to validate the machine’s digging capacity, cycle times and operational stability vs. contractual performance specifications. A single Comet simulation process template developed by domain experts based on the Abstract Engineering ModelTM enables rapid design analysis iterations to be performed on wide range of vehicle geometry and subsystem configurations, even in the proposal stage by sales engineers who do not know how to run the individual CAD and calculation tools required to generate the machine performance data.
